Why ICSJ School?

Welcome to Immaculate Conception–St. Joseph School

Immaculate Conception–St. Joseph School (ICSJ) is a leading Catholic school partnering with parents to educate students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8. Our families represent 28 Chicago zip codes, reflecting the strength and vibrancy of our community.

Located in the heart of Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood, ICSJ operates two campuses:

  • North Park Campus (1431 N. North Park Avenue): Early Learners Program and Junior Kindergarten through Grade 3

  • Hill Street Campus (363 W. Hill Street): Grades 4 through 8

Families value our central location and close proximity to downtown Chicago, while students benefit from campuses intentionally designed for their developmental stages.

Strong Family Engagement

At ICSJ, community is more than a value — it is a lived experience. Students, families, faculty, and staff form a true “family of families.” ICSJ was recognized for having the highest level of family engagement among elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Chicago, according to the most recent 5Essentials Survey. This strong partnership between school and home strengthens every aspect of the student experience.

Rigorous Academics

ICSJ students consistently perform at high levels, with standardized test scores ranking among the top 15% nationwide. Our graduates are exceptionally well prepared for success at Chicago’s most competitive Catholic, independent, and selective-enrollment high schools. Our distinctive co-teaching model sets the foundation for academic excellence. From Junior Kindergarten through Grade 3, two certified teachers serve in each classroom, allowing for authentic differentiation and personalized instruction. Students are supported, challenged, and empowered to reach their fullest potential.

Beyond the Basics

ICSJ offers a well-rounded curriculum that extends far beyond core academics. Students participate in weekly art, music, and STEM classes, as well as Physical Education and Spanish multiple times per week, depending on grade level. Social-Emotional Learning and Executive Functioning skills are intentionally integrated into each day across all classrooms. In partnership with classroom teachers, our Student Support Team includes five learning specialists, two counselors, and a school nurse. Through ongoing collaboration, this team ensures that every student receives the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Exploring Interests & Developing Leadership

ICSJ offers more than 40 opportunities for students to engage beyond the school day, including clubs, enrichment programs, athletics, performing arts, and leadership organizations. These experiences help students explore new interests, develop specific skills, build teamwork and self-discipline, grow in confidence and responsibility, and form lasting friendships.

High School Placement

ICSJ graduates are prepared not only for acceptance but for leadership. Each year, over 95% of our students are admitted to their first-choice high school, where they go on to excel academically and serve as student leaders.
